Tribal & Emerging Planner Conference Scholarship

The Tribal & Emerging Planning Conference Scholarship was set up to support and encourage students entering the field of planning to gain a better understanding and appreciation of tribal, small town, rural, county and regional-planning issues. The scholarship provides a free registration for the annual Western Planner conference, and receive up to $250 for attendance costs.

Scholarship

Recipient will receive a waiver for a full-conference attendance. This does not include mobile tours, or other fee-extra activities. Funding will be on a reimbursement basis for eligible direct conference costs which include conference hotel, transportation to/from the event, and food during the event. 

Eligibility

Must be a currently enrolled student, full or part-time, in a planning or related program located in a Western Planner-affiliated state (AK, AZ, CA, CO, ID, MT, ND, NM, NV, OR, SD, UT, WY). Eligible educational programs include Associate, Bachelor, Master, Doctorate, or Certificate programs in the following areas:

  • Planning programs (city, urban, regional, bioregional, environmental, etc.)

  • Geography, with a planning focus or emphasis

  • Geographic Information Systems

  • Community Development

  • Government, with a planning focus or emphasis

  • Historic Preservation

  • Landscape Architecture

  • Urban Design

  • Public Administration

Deadline

The deadline for applications is June 1st. 

Requirement

Recipients of the scholarship will be expected to attend the Western Planner conference and will be recognized during the Western Planner awards ceremony. 

Evaluation

Applicants will be evaluated on the merits of their application by a panel of Western Planner Resources directors. Recipients will be notified by July 1st. Preference will be given to currently enrolled members of federally recognized American Indian or Alaska Native tribes
