Community Planner I or II
The Mid-Region Council of Governments seeks an energetic self-starter to join our dynamic and friendly team at the Mid-Region Metropolitan Planning Organization (MRMPO/MPO).
As a member of the MPO team, you’ll engage with a diverse group of professionals around planning topics such as multimodal transportation, land use, and environmental resiliency. You will coordinate outreach and engagement activities with the general public and staff from member agencies. You will represent MRMPO on multi-disciplinary teams covering a wide array of planning projects. Applicants are not expected to be an expert on all topics; however, a natural curiosity and the willingness to learn is a must. There is flexibility to pursue special topics of interest that align with the MPO work plan. The MPO desires applicants with a passion for community development and inter-agency collaboration to make progress toward a shared vision for the future.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Community Planning, Environmental Planning, Communications, or a relevant field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must possess an instinct for curiosity and learning.
Must be a self-starter who takes initiative on projects.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Planning or a relevant field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
3 or more years of experience in a relevant field.
Basic knowledge of ArcGIS, MS Excel, and other data and analysis tools.
Familiarity with, or interest in, federal transportation policy.
Responsibilities and Opportunities
This position requires a person who is highly organized and able to interact with diverse groups about a range of topics related to community planning and development.
Job responsibilities include:
Lead public outreach activities in accordance with MRMPO’s Public Participation Plan.
Learn and operate MRMPO’s public engagement software platform and grow our social media presence.
Strengthen community relationships and broadening the reach of the MPO.
Serve on inter-agency teams that relate to environmental resiliency, public transit, land use, economic development and other topics as needed.
Coordinate with member agencies to promote alignment between local, tribal, state, and regional plans.
Perform research and writing to support long-range metropolitan transportation planning.
Stay current on planning practices and peer agencies through research, webinars, conferences and data releases.
Salary and Benefits
The salary will be commensurate with experience and falls within the annual range of $50,960 - $73,112 annually. This position offers full benefits including health, dental, and vision coverage, vacation and sick leave, group life insurance, and enrollment in the Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA) of New Mexico.
