GENERAL PURPOSE
Performs a variety of professional and technical duties related to implementing department work plans and programs and monitoring community compliance with established planning, zoning and development ordinances; performs an integrated role in planning duties and functions; assists the City Planner with day-to-day operations.

Works under the general supervision of the City Planner.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Review and analyze developmental proposals. Coordinates review with other City Departments. Prepares and presents staff reports.
Reviews planning applications and plans submitted to the City Council, Planning Commission, Appeal Authority and other City Boards and committees; provide recommendations on approval, denial, or modification of applications.
Prepares written reports and present reports in a clear, concise manner to various commissions, boards and committees; serve as staff to variety of commissions, committees, and groups.
Gives presentations to the City Council, Planning Commission, Appeal Authority, professional groups, civic groups, and other public agencies.
Confers with developers, builders, engineers, contractors, architects, attorneys, and the general public regarding interpretation and application of City development policies and Land Use Ordinances, and project conditions.
Checks plans for commercial, industrial, and residential development for conformance with land use, architectural zoning and subdivision regulations, and suggest changes to achieve compliance for issuance of zone clearance; includes sign, fence, and building permits.
Assists and provides information to the public regarding the preparation and filing of planning and zoning and subdivision applications and interpret City’s Land Use Ordinances to the public at the counter, by telephone, or in writing.
Gathers and researches land use data for zoning verification, projects, and City land use. Provides assistance and serves as an advisor, and liaison to the City Code Compliance Officer in planning and zoning related matters.
