Planning & Building Technician – Grand County, Colorado

Position Information:

  • Grade 45a, minimum rate = $36,121 ($18.52/hour) 

Position Duties: 

  • Schedules and processes zoning and building permit reviews.

  • Administers compliance for the Short Term Rental (STR) program to ensure that property-owners offering their properties as short term rentals comply with the terms, conditions and requirements of the County’s STR regulations.

  • Reviews building permit applications, site plans and building plans, and performs small building permit plan review, field zoning inspections and applicable building permit inspections and development review, to determine compliance with County regulations such as proper setback, color, building materials, site placement and similar features.

  • Searches land ownership records for current and past ownership of land in the County; uses GIS and Assessor’s records. 

  • Researches and analyzes land use and building code issues.

  • Conducts field inspections and posts notices as appropriate to assure compliance with the County’s zoning, STR, blight and other ordinances.

  • Receives complaint information from the general public and other agencies regarding potential building code, land use code, sign code, junk, short term rental code violations.

  • Investigates and processes zoning, building code, blight (junk), short term rental violations; issues letters of violation, coordinates compliance and performs site inspections.

  • Documents and develops case files; assembles information and records specific to each case or complaint; logs complaint cases into computer tracking system.

  • Provides general administrative support; types reports, handles certified mail, delivers reports and data to the Community Development Director. 

  • Provides general customer service for the Department; answers the telephone and schedules appointments for planning and zoning inquiries and applications.

  • Acts as liaison with other departments regarding code violations and enforcement issues.

Position Requirements: 

Any combination of education and experience or equivalent to high school graduation or general education degree (GED); and one to two years of related experience and/or training. Experience with customer service, building permit services, code enforcement services and/or other property related services desirable.

ICC/AACE Code Enforcement Certification and Building Safety desirable.
