This position works closely with the Highway Engineering Department and County Planning Commission to enforce county planning and enforcement issues and related ordinances, land use, and environmental plans and regulations, and enforce floodplain regulations.
Prepares drafts of maps, charts, and other graphic presentations needed to illustrate studies of land use, subdivisions, new development areas, population, highway and street systems, recreational land, etc.
Reviews and approves plans and permits ensuring that necessary departments provide input prior to presentation before the County Planning Commission.
Assist and coordinate with various entities and agencies on related matters such as reviewing proposed plats to include city extraterritorial areas; coordinating with city planning offices, townships, and Ward County Highway Department.
Confers with and provides information to developers, engineers, architects, property owners, contractors and others regarding code requirements and alternatives and planning and zoning regulations and policies.
Provide zoning enforcement, including conducting full formal investigations on potential violations to the point of closure.
Maintains confidentiality of non-public records and makes available all data and information deemed a public record by the ND Century Code.
Attends all Planning Commission meetings and presents planning and zoning applications for approval as well as presents Planning Commission recommendations to the Ward County Board of Commissioners.
Acts as primary land use planning resource to the County. Supervise and participate in preparation and revision of zoning ordinances and subdivision regulations. Review plats for subdivision permits. Administer, interpret and apply subdivision regulations.
Ensures County Planning and Zoning regulations conform to established legal regulations and standards; modifies and presents changes for approval before the Planning Commission and/or Ward County Board of Commissioners as needed.
Oversees Floodplain and Storm Water Management Plans.
Position requirements include:
Four year college degree (BA) in Urban or Regional Planning, Public Administration or related field and two (2) years of planning experience.
Knowledge of principles and practices of planning, zoning, and land regulation.
Must be a Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM), or ability to obtain within two years from date of hire.
Skill in developing and implementing building & construction codes; and planning & zoning codes/regulations.
Starting Salary: $5,113 to $6,202 per month
