GIS Planner - Sweetwater County, Wyoming

Sweetwater County Government located in beautiful Flaming Gorge County in Green River, Wyoming is seeking a GIS Planner to work within our land use office to manage the County’s growing GIS system and resources, in support of the land use, engineering, assessors and other County Offices.


  • Maintain accurate and current GIS Maps and Databases.

  • Providing mapping and data analysis using ESRI products.

  • Provide Mapping and GIS support to County Departments/Agencies.

  • Present Planning and Zoning Reports to the Planning and Zoning Commission and Public.

  • Research data sources digitize data and collect geospatial and attribute data.

  • Review subdivision and development applications.

  • Develop standards and implement procedures for GIS creation and maintenance.

  • Develop project related exhibits, maps and visuals.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Must possess in-depth knowledge of cartography and GIS and their practical uses.

  • Knowledge and skill in managing geodatabases.

  • Provide technical GIS and cartography support to various County departments and staff.

  • Provide quality control review of maps, data and exhibits delivered to the office.

  • Work well with other staff and the public to utilize GIS tools and opportunities.

  • Knowledge of fundamental land surveying techniques.

Essential Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in GIS, Planning, Geography or related field.

  • 3-5 years of experience in GIS, with emphasis on community development, planning and project management.

  • Demonstrated experience applying GIS to planning, environmental, transportation or land development projects.

  • Strong GIS working knowledge of ESRI products.

  • Competency using the Microsoft Suite of Office products.
