Urban & Regional Planner-Advanced – New Mexico DOT – Santa Fe, NM
New Mexico Department of Transportation is seeking a Transportation Planner to work in the Technical and Freight Planning unit in the Statewide Planning Bureau to support statewide freight planning, as well as help maintain roadway classifications and other technical planning activities such as Geographic Information System (GIS) utilization. These efforts include direct coordination with the Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) and Regional Transportation Planning Organizations (RTPOs) to implement transportation planning processes in New Mexico, program management, assisting with long-range planning processes and implementation, multi-modal transportation planning, and other duties as assigned.
How does it get done?
This position is responsible for developing freight planning documents and managing freight planning projects, as well as ensuring that National Highway System (NHS) and Functional Classification System (FC) networks are maintained per federal regulations, all under supervision.
Who are the customers?
This position is to comply with the Federal Highway Administration and coordinate with other NMDOT departments and districts, as well as MPOs and RTPOs and other public stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will have experience in:
*Managing several programs and projects concurrently, prioritizing assignments
*Administering and implementing programs and projects while meeting state and/or federal regulations, policies and procedures
*Transportation planning, including familiarity with state and federal regulations, policies and procedures
*GIS mapping, data management and analysis, or forecasting related to transportation, land use, and/or socio-economic conditions, trends, projections, plans or policies
*Public presentation and outreach, meeting management, and consensus-building
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Employment is subject to a pre-employment background investigation and is conditional pending results.
Work is primarily performed in an office setting. Some statewide travel with overnight stays may be required. Must adhere to strict deadlines. Extensive use of personal computer.
