Urban & Regional Planner-Advanced – New Mexico DOT – Las Cruces, NM

New Mexico Department of Transportation is seeking a Transportation Planner to work in the Gov’t to Gov’t Unit. Duties include serving as the Planning Liaison to the following Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) and Regional Transportation Planning Organizations (RTPOs): El Paso MPO, Mesilla Valley MPO, Southeast RTPO, South Central RTPO, and Southwest RTPO.


How does it get done?

The Planning Liaison (based in Las Cruces) travels to and attends meetings (all over southern NM), travels to and attends MPO/RTPO member entity project feasibility meetings, monitors work products and staff time, processes reimbursement packets, and ensures compliance with state and federal laws.  The position assists with the development, implementation and administration of plans, programs and projects.  This position provides other planning services and expertise as needed by the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT), particularly in coordination with New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) Districts 1 and 2.


Who are the customers?

The position serves the MPOs/RTPOs and their member entities, members of the public, as well as other NMDOT staff in the General Office and Districts one and two.

Ideal Candidate


The ideal candidate will have experience in:

-  Working as a Planner, Program Administrator or Policy Analyst for a governmental entity.

-  Managing federal grants and familiarity with the requirements contained in 2 CFR 200.

-  Transportation planning.


Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Employment is subject to a pre-employment background investigation and is conditional pending results.


Working Conditions

Work is primarily performed in an office setting. Some statewide travel with overnight stays may be required. Must adhere to strict deadlines. Extensive use of personal computer.
