The City of Durango is accepting applications for the Business Development & Redevelopment Coordinator position in the Community Development Department. The selected individual will perform a variety of professional functions with a specific emphasis on small business development and strategic redevelopment. This position provides businesses, community organizations and citizens with information, guidance and support regarding City initiatives and processes.
The overall goals for this position are to:
promote and facilitate small business retention, expansion and development;
encourage employment and local investment;
support the success of and reinvestment in the Central Business District and other mixed-use districts;
identify opportunities for appropriate redevelopment and promote these opportunities;
research and apply tools for creating innovative public-private partnerships including Urban Renewal Authorities (URA), Tax Increment Financing (TIF), Opportunity Zones, and others.
advance placemaking as an economic development strategy in Durango;
lead the City’s efforts to build the existing creative economy and partner with other organizations to facilitate growth in the arts and culture sector;
recognize and communicate the importance of tourism and higher education to the local economy and
facilitate improved communications among members of the business community and the City, all in support of City Council goals .

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Public Policy, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred. At least three years of professional level experience in economic development, redevelopment, or business assistance, including experience in program implementation, marketing, and public information efforts, event coordination or related fields is desirable. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted. Familiarity with business development practices, Colorado economic development resources, and placemaking as an economic development strategy is also preferred.
Annual salary starts at $60,756, plus excellent benefits.
