The Housing and Community Development division of the Utah Department of Workforce Services is seeking a Community Development Specialist to support Utah’s rural communities. This position is housed within the Community Development Office and supports rural leaders who have limited time and employee capacity with the tools to effectively manage and plan for their communities. This is typically accomplished through informational guides on issues facing rural communities, tools to help community leaders, and individual community analysis. Developing these resources necessitates strong technical writing skills and the ability to articulate complex topics simply.
The position requires adaptability and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. This position builds partnerships with other state agencies then connects those resources with rural communities. A key responsibility of this role is to support a specifically assigned association of government’s regional planner as they work with community leaders. Typical assistance includes providing training for planning commissions, providing guidance on general planning, and helping a community set up capital asset management programs. Interfacing with these partners and community leaders requires tact and strong interpersonal skills.
